Five associations of the Portuguese cultural sector (Access Culture, BAD – Portuguese Association of Librarians, Archivists, Information and Documentation Professionals, ICOM Portugal, Performart, REDE – Association for Contemporary Dance) presented yesterday, January 22nd, at the José Saramago Foundation in Lisbon, the “Guide to Managing Incidents and Promoting Safety in Culture”.
Recently, the cultural sector has been the target of disruptive manifestations – in some cases even violent, at a psychological and physical level. The intention is to restrict the freedom of creation and cultural enjoyment of citizens in Portugal and to censor exhibitions, books, shows and public events. It is necessary to guarantee the freedom, well-being and physical and psychological safety of all people, cultural professionals and the public.
- What is happening?
- What to do (before, during and after)?
- What are our rights and duties?
- What resources are available to us?
This guide aims to support cultural professionals and cultural organisations in managing disruptive or violent incidents, at both individual and institutional levels.
